How Bull Run works: prices, price updates and signals

Bull Run’s card prices come from JustTCG and are refreshed every night. Each card gets a buy, hold or sell signal worked out from how its price has moved. Signals are estimates based on past prices, not guarantees.

Where do the prices come from?

Card prices for Pokémon, Pokémon Japan, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney Lorcana and Star Wars: Unlimited come from JustTCG, which tracks market prices for each card by printing and condition. The price shown first is for a Near Mint copy. Prices for played copies are the latest JustTCG price for that condition when there is one, and otherwise an estimate from how much less played copies usually sell for in that game.

Graded prices (PSA 10, PSA 9) are shown when we have them. When a graded price says “Bull Run estimate”, it is the Near Mint price times a typical grade multiplier, not a real graded market price.

What does “price updates” mean?

“Price updates in the last 30 days” counts how many times the tracked price for that card changed in the last month. It is a sign of how actively a card trades, but it is not a count of copies sold.

How do the buy and sell signals work?

Every night Bull Run looks at each card’s price over the last two weeks, one, two, three and six months. A card that has been rising steadily and is still rising may be rated Buy or Strong Buy. A card whose price has been sliding may be rated Sell — but only when cards with a price history like it have more often fallen than risen over the next 90 days. Most cards are a Hold: their price is not moving enough to call.

The signal score runs from −100 (strong sell) to +100 (strong buy). We test the rules on past prices before using them. Even so, they are estimates based on past prices, not guarantees: a card can always move the other way.

Which cards have a page here?

About 3,000 of the most valuable and most actively traded cards across the six games, chosen every Monday. The app covers every card, including the ones without a page here, and adds live price alerts, collection tracking and scanning.
